The Talking Leaves

Sequoia's winters were sixteen silent tongue spirit clean
He walked at his father's side
Across the smoking battle ground where red and white men lay all around
So many here had died
The wind had scattered around snow white leaves upon the ground
Not leaves like leaves from trees
Sequoia said what can this be what's the strange thing here I see
From where come leaves like these
Sequoia turned to his father's eyes and he said father you're wise
From where come such snow white leaves
With such strange marks upon these squares
Not even the wise owl could put them there
So strange these snow white leaves
His father shielding his concern resenting the knowledge Sequoia yearned
Crumbled the snow white leaves
He said when I explain then it's done these are talking leaves my son
The white men's talking leaves
The white man takes a berry of black and red
And an eagle's feather from the eagle's bed
And he makes bird track marks
And the marks on the leaves they say carry messages to his brother far away
And his brother knows what's in his heart
They see these marks and they understand the truth in the heart of the far off man
The enemies can't hear them
Said Sequoia's father son they weave bad medicine on these talking leaves
Leave such things to them
Then Sequoia walking lightly followed his father quietly but so amazed was he
If the white man talks on leaves why not the Cherokee
Vanished from his father's face Sequoia went from place to place
But he could not forget
Year after year he worked on and on till finally he cut into stone
The Cherokee alphabet
Sequoia's hair by now was white his eyes began to lose their light
But he taught all who would believe
That the Indian's thoughts could be written down
Just as the white men's there on the ground and he left us these talking leaves

All The Girls Are Complicated

All the girls are complicated
All the girls will work you hard
And they break their hearts
It's just who they are
They're just working out who they are

All my friends are raving mad
Make me so crazy but you know I'm glad
That I've got someone I can lean upon
Oh, and I know I'm not the only one

From the ones who tend their looks
To the ones that mind their books
To the one who's got her hooks in you
You know she doesn't have a thing to prove

All the girls are complicated
Every one is precious too
And you might get lucky if you do
Oh, you might get lucky if you do

Find the one that makes you glad
Find the one that takes your breath
Well, you won't get everything that you want
Oh, but you'll need one to dote upon

Listen close to her
Just as if your life depended
It's never just the words
Feel your way and you will mend it

All the girls are complicated
Every one is precious too
And you might get lucky if you do
You might get lucky if you do

All the girls are complicated
All the girls will work you hard
And they break their hearts
It's just who they are
Oh, they're just working out who they are

Same in any language

Sometime ago Ι met a Navajo
In a parking lot in Tokyo
He said everything wordlessly
The wonderlust in my eyes he didn't see

Oh yeah
Oh oh yeah

Those postcards I sent to Birmingham
All the way from those windows of Amsterdam
I copped a gram from Dappersan
Just to fall at her man in another jam

Oh yeah
Oh oh yeah

It's the same in any language
A brother is a brother
If theres one thing I know
Its the same in any language
Where ever you go

Oh yeah

I ran outta jack in Tripoli
Oh those freedom fighters they were good to me
They asked me all about Tennessee
And on one thing we all did agree

Aikakirjat

Menivät tyystin sekaisin maailmankirjat
ennen kuin vasta kynään edes tartuttiin
Jäivät kosmokseen kaikumaan haukut ja
herjat joista jokainen kostettiin

Jos ajan, avaruuden taakse joku taivaltaa
vieläkin voi kuulla kuinka käsky kajahtaa
Ja kirjoitukset merkilliset osan vangitsevat
missä kummalliset olot vallitsevat

Kummien seutujen hillittömät olot
Ylettömät peijaiset ja ihmispolot
Tulipa mies taito sormessaan,
takoja seitsemännessä polvessa

Vanhat laulut toteutuvat
Kauhujen kammiot kauaksi jää
Saarnaajaluopiot sokeutuvat
Kääntyy viimeisenkin pää

Jos vain kuulisitte miksi asiat ovat
niinkuin ovat ette uskoisi te sanaakaan
Jos tuntisitte aikakirjat täysin mahdottomat
ehkä sitten pyrkisitte karkaamaan

Jumalten kaikkien esijumalat
vetelivät huviksensa kovat humalat
Siitä syntyi perin omituista jälkeä
Miksi rakentaa, on niin hauska särkeä?

A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall

Oh, where have you been, my blue-eyed son?
And where have you been, my darling young one?
I’ve stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains
I’ve walked and I’ve crawled on six crooked highways
I’ve been ten thousand miles in the mouth of a graveyard

It's a hard, and it’s a hard, and it's hard, and it’s a hard
It’s a hard rain’s a-gonna fall

Oh, what did you see, my blue-eyed son?
And what did you see, my darling young one?
A newborn baby with wolves all around it
Saw a highway of diamonds with nobody on it
I saw ten thousand talkers whose tongues were all broken

And it’s a hard, and it’s a hard, and it’s a hard, and it’s a hard
It’s a hard rain’s a-gonna fall

And what did you hear, my blue-eyed son?
And what did you hear, my darling young one?
Heard the sound of thunder that roared out a warning
I heard one person starve and many people laughing
I heard one hundred drummers whose hands were a-blazing

And it’s a hard, and it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard
It’s a hard rain’s a-gonna fall

And what will you do, my blue-eyed son?
And what will you do, my darling young one?
I’ll walk to the depths of the deepest dark forest
Where the people are many and their hands are all empty
Where hunger is ugly, where souls are forgotten
Where black is the colour and none is the number
Then I’ll stand on the ocean until I start sinking
But I’ll know my song well before I start singing

And it’s a hard, and it’s a hard, and it’s a hard, it’s a hard
It’s a hard rain’s a-gonna fall
